Like any good biker, you like to go on a motorcycle vacation, either yours or rented. In Motoridays you have the possibility to rent the motorcycle you want.

Traveling by motorcycle is a wonderful experience, but it requires a little more planning than a similar car trip. On a motorcycle, space is reduced, which means you’ll have to think carefully about what you’re going to wear. As you well know, motorcycling is a very physical activity and you will have to make sure you pack the right equipment and protective clothing for the trip.

Here are some tips that will help you have a perfect motorcycle route. So take note and start your motorcycle.

Plan your packaging well in advance. Even when they are already equipped with a top box and saddlebags, the bikes have a very limited luggage space compared to cars, so make a list of everything you want to take and pack well in advance. This way you will avoid last minute burdens.

Your driving equipment is key to make your trip as pleasant as possible and you are comfortable driving.

Check your route and try to determine what temperatures you are going to be exposed to. Full skins are always good for protection, but they are cumbersome and can get very hot, which means that textiles are usually a better option. If you travel on a cruiser type motorcycle, you may want to travel light and opt for a leather jacket and armored jeans, which can be used as casual clothes when you arrive at your destination. Just make sure you wear a waterproof suit that you can wear when it rains. We recommend several thin layers, since you can always put on or take off clothes according to the weather.

Consult documents

Especially if you go abroad, make sure your documents are in order. So check in advance what you need to carry and place them in a waterproof bag for safekeeping. Also make sure you have access to your medical insurance and the coverage you have.

Remember that in Britain you drive on the left

It seems very simple, but if you travel to Britain: stay on the left side of the road!

It may seem silly but on rural and quiet roads, or when leaving, it is easy to enter autopilot mode and depart on the wrong side of the road.

One tip that could help you is to make a sticker and put it somewhere prominent, such as the board or mirrors. So surely you do not forget, it seems exaggerated, but the penalty for driving on the wrong side can be fatal.

Take a test ride

Just as you would not go running a marathon without training, it is advisable to do a small test, especially if you have a new team or have not ridden for a long time.

Take a morning to take a long walk and see that what you plan to take on your motorcycle tour is still comfortable after riding for a few hours. There is nothing worse than a motorcycle or uncomfortable clothes on such a trip.

Get fit!

It is not necessary to be the Iron Man of the year to make a motorcycle trip, but it is advisable to have a good physical condition. Since a full day on a motorcycle can be a great effort that is not usually done.

If you have a great route scheduled, do your best to get fit and try to eat and sleep well in the days before departure.

The motorcycle

Needless to say, you should get your motorcycle ready before any trip. Make a good review in your workshop. A broken motorcycle will ruin your vacation and can be very expensive, so give yourself the luxury of being a forecaster and this doesn’t happen to you.

If you think about renting it, choose the one that best suits you, and if you can try it before traveling with it. So you can change the model if it is not what you thought.

Check your route

Today we have very easy to establish a destination and arrive without hesitation with the help of GPS, but it is always good to do a little research before heading. Check Google Maps for two reasons.

First, the road works that may be on the road. Even on a motorcycle you can get stuck in the works. Do a quick check before leaving. If there are works, you will surely find an alternative route.

Second, look at the map often, it gives you interesting information that you might want to incorporate into your trip. It may take longer to go on the highway, but it could also be one of the best motorcycle roads in Europe. You can also see cities and tourist attractions that can be incredible stopping points.

It is essential to be hydrated

Dehydration is one of the most important factors in making your mind wander while driving. There are “camel back” systems, which can be filled with liquid and sipped through a straw in the helmet, although they are probably not necessary for all trips, it is a matter of taste.

Of course, make sure you get into the habit of drinking water when you stop to fill the tank, as well as stay hydrated until you go to sleep. It’s a matter of common sense, listen to what your body is telling you. If you feel it is hard for you to concentrate or you are boiling, take a break and make sure you drink plenty of fluids.

Do not forget to have good hearing protection

Wind noise on the motorcycle can cause significant fatigue when driving at high speeds for prolonged periods. It can also cause permanent damage to your hearing.

We recommend using earplugs. There are the foam classics that isolate the outside world and the first quality filtered earplugs that reduce the harmful noise of the wind and at the same time allow the passage of a “good” noise, you can hear the traffic noise.

After these tips, from Motoridays we wish you a Happy Journey.
